Case narrative:

Kværner is a Norwegian engineering and construction company.

In September 2015 Kværner announced that it is going to be partially involved in the construction of operating platforms known as 'steal jackets' for the recently discovered (2010) oil field named Johan Sverdrup. Kværner has committed to completing the three large oil platforms on the Johan Sverdrup site by 2018. According to Kværner, production of many sections of the platforms will be cheaper when operating in Norway than in Dubai, due to proximity to the site and greater access to automation and advanced machinery. Kværner is therefore backshoring part of the production to Norway. Jan Arve Haugan, President and CEO, claims that the number of employees involved in production will increase by 200 full-time equivalents due to the relocation. Haugan stated that almost 2,000 employees in total will work on the Sverdrup contract.
